Hunter Belle Cheese Cafe Review in Muswellbrook

Colorful country-style giftware and local products line the shelves at Hunter Belle Cheese Cafe, reflecting the cafe's quaint charm.

Traveling through the Hunter Valley in NSW Australia, I came across a lovely little café, Hunter Belle Cheese on the outskirts of Muswellbrook.

Muswellbrook is situated in the northern parts of the Sydney basin in the Hunter Valley, bordering the New England region. The area is predominantly known for coal mining and horse breeding but has also developed a reputation for gourmet food and wine production.

Hunter Belle Cheese produces unique, artisan cheese products from the milk of Brown Swiss Cows. Their cheese is hand made using traditional methods, which results in the quality cheese that is loved by foodies around the country.

In 2004 Hunter Belle Cheese was established. In 2008 the Chesworth Family, after 6 generations of milking cows on the banks of the Hunter River, decided they needed a change but were still passionate about the dairy industry.

They made the decision to sell their much-loved dairy and become the new owners of Hunter Belle Cheese. They say as one door closes another will open and that was certainly the case in this instance.

So it was no surprise to discover this little café which, when walking in the door is like stepping back in time. The café is filled with country-style giftware and a range of delicious products made on-site. It was homely which I just love and bustling with customers.

A unique shopping experience with a country touch at Hunter Belle Cheese Cafe, featuring bags and gifts with vintage flair.

There is a window into the cheese-making room and while there wasn’t anything happening at the time of day that I arrived, it gave me a chance to read all the information on the walls about their cheese-making process. I ordered my lunch from their menu. The fresh and modern menu showcased their cheese made with some delicious options to choose from, so I decided on their Warm Vegetable Stack for lunch.

I had a sneak peek at all their giftware and had time to browse through the range of cheeses, yogurts, fudge, and gelato all made in-house before my meal was ready in record time. I eyed off some purchases that would definitely go into my basket on the way out the door.

I sat outside as it was a beautiful day and treated myself to a glass of local wine. The meal was delicious and smothered in all their sauces and Fetabelle cheese. I really enjoyed it. Country fare at its best.

I didn’t get a chance to meet any of the owners but the staff were lovely and very friendly. I walked out the door with some Triple Brie Cheese, a jar of their Herb and Garlic Marinated Fetabelle, a lovely sign for my kitchen wall, some fudge, and a pie from their menu which I wanted to take home for dinner. A full basket of goodies, a full tummy, and when I got to the car it was nice and cool, shaded by lovely trees in their car park. What a great adventure! I can highly recommend a visit.
